HIDING OBAMA’S WORDS FROM US

In Final Push, Obama Urges ‘Up-or-Down’ Vote on Health

By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

TRULY AWESOME.  PRESENTING WHAT THEY THINK IS A GOOD CASE FOR OBAMA’S ACTIONS, HERE THE NYT CARRIES THE WATER FOR THE LEFT AS IT MINIMISES WHAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE SAYING.

“With Republicans accusing Democrats and Mr. Obama of trying to ram the bill through Congress, the president and his allies are making the case that in fact, comprehensive health legislation has already passed both chambers, garnering a majority in the House and a supermajority in the Senate. Technically, they say, reconciliation will be used only to pass a small package of fixes to the original bills.”

NOT THAT ANY OF WHAT OBAMA SAID MATTERS IN REFERENCE TO LEGISLATION.  A MAJORITY IS JUST ONE PART OF MAKING LEGISLATION VALID.  THE NYT SEEMS TO WANT TO IGNORE THIS.  WHY DOESN’T THE NYT QUOTE A REPUBLICAN OR TWO HERE TO BE FAIR?   THE NYT DOESN’T TELL US JUST WHY THE RIGHT THINKS OBAMA IS RAMMING  THROUGH HEALTH CARE REFORM.  WHAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE SAYING IS THAT OBAMA HAS REPEDEDLY IN THE PAST DEFENDED THE RIGHT OF THE MINORITY TO USE FILLIBUSTER TO BLOCK LEGISLATION OR EVEN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATIONS.  HE HAS BEEN RECORDED NUMEROUS TIME SAYING AS MUCH, YET THE NYT DOESN’T THINK A PRESIDENT DIRECTLY CONTRADICTING HIMSELF AND MAKING OUTRAGEOUS ACCUSATIONS REGARDING THIS SUBJECT IN THE PAST IS NEWSWORTHY ENOUGH FOR PRINT.  NOT DOES THE NYT FIND IT WORTH CALLING INTO QUESTION OBAMA’S SELF PROCLAIMED VOTER MANDATE WHICH LIKELY DOESN’T EXIST AND USING THAT TO RUSH THROUGH SWEEPING SOCIETAL CHANGES THAT CONGRESS HAS NO CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO PERPETRATE.
